Healthy Minds’ Administration Team

Our Administration Team consists of five departments: Operations, Personnel, and Quality Assurance.

Operations

Malia Murphy, LMSWDirector of Administration

Malia completed her Bachelors and Masters programs at Boise State University. She obtained her state license immediately following the completion of her Masters of Social Work degree with a minor in Addiction Studies from Boise State University in 2014. She has been working in the mental health and substance use disorder fields since she was 17 years old and has experience working with a variety of populations from youth, adolescents, adults, and families to individual, group, and couples therapy at an outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization level. Malia is EMDR trained and certified in Grief Counseling, and she enjoys working with people from all walks of life.

Malia has always been interested in helping others. She chose to take an administrative direction in the helping field to further her experience, and has found a love for helping from a macro level as well.

Personal notes: Malia enjoys anything in the sunshine and warm weather, especially floating the river and backyard BBQs. She’s happiest spending time outside with family and friends. Malia has two dogs: an 11-year-old Australian shepherd and a 5-year-old chocolate lab.

Malia is also a bookworm. What’s her favorite book? In her words, “I read so much that it is hard to pick one. I’ve read 52 books a year for the past two years, but professionally, I’d say Fierce Conversations is my favorite.”

Malia says her favorite place in the world is home, but Santorini, Greece, is a close second. What makes her laugh or smile? Her kids.

Juan Valls FerronCoordinator

Prior to joining Healthy Minds, Juan worked in tourist management. However, in his desire to “take care of more people and fix what’s broken,” he decided to make a career change.

Personal notes: Outside of work, Juan’s favorite thing to do is lay on the beach. His favorite book? El viejo y el mar (The Old Man and the Sea). Favorite movie? Papillon. Favorite place in the world? Las Vegas.

Personnel

Leah CardozaPersonnel Associate

Leah has dedicated her entire adult career to the mental health field, bringing both passion and heart to the work she does. Her professional journey took on even deeper meaning in 2016 when she began her personal adoption journey with her daughter. That life-changing experience sparked a strong passion for supporting children and families and ultimately drew her to the impactful work Healthy Minds provides within the Child Welfare and Substance Abuse programs.

In 2018, Leah joined Healthy Minds as an Office Administrator within the Child Welfare program. Through years of dedication and growth, she has continued to evolve within the organization and now thrives in her role as a Personnel Associate in the Human Resources department.

Personal notes: Outside of work, Leah enjoys spending quality time with her wife and daughter, whether that means camping, fishing, spending time in the mountains, or relaxing with a good book. She is also a proud and devoted fan of the Las Vegas Aces and looks forward to every season as a season ticket holder alongside her family.

Quality Assurance

Nathan Rudig, MSQuality Assurance Manager

Nathan started his education in his hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska, and finished his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at UNLV. He’s always been fascinated by how people learn mathematics and use it to enrich their lives and careers. It was this fascination that led Nathan to complete a UNLV Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology while researching attitudes towards mathematics and their effects on learning. After graduation, he chose to continue using his research and statistics skills by joining the Healthy Minds’ research team to help assure quality care and illuminate treatment outcomes.

Nathan is passionate about solving problems and finding the answers to any question using mathematics.

Personal notes: Outside of work, Nathan enjoys playing guitar, soccer, road cycling, board games, computer games, and watching sci-fi. (His favorite book is Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park and he considers Pitch Black to be the best movie of all time.) In addition to spending time with his favorite humans, Nathan also enjoys the company of his pets, which include one dog, one cat, and two guinea pigs. (They seem to share his passion for sci-fi movies.)

His favorite place in the world? Anywhere green and sunny. What makes Nathan laugh or smile? Spending time with friends and family.
